About the Olympia Art League

Olympia Art LeagueThe Olympia Art League has served to promote visual arts in the South Puget Sound community of Washington State for over 50 years. The organization's 100+ members are an active, vibrant group of artists and art lovers.

The League sponsors a variety of art-related activities for artists of all levels of ability. As a non-profit organization, the League’s mission is to serve, not only its members, but also the larger South Sound community. The public is welcome to attend the League’s monthly meetings, and to participate in most events the League sponsors.

The League’s newsletters are posted to this website around the first of the month (Sept-Nov, Jan-May), that the League operates, and serve to provide an up-to-date source of League activities. Members are also kept informed of art-related happenings through a group e-mail network.

A Great Show

The Olympia Art League's 2014 Lakefair Show was a huge success!

There were an amazing number of entries and the Show Judge was very selective, so winning an award is a huge honor!

Here are the winning artists:

  • Best in Show went to Ron Snowden for his painting "The Big Samoan." (Many of us were fortunate to watch him paint his "coffee portrait Indian" at one of our monthly meetings). Ron won $500 from Olympia Federal Savings & Loan, downtown branch.
Second prize went to Kay Crawford's pastel "Shining Bright." Kay won $300 donated to the show anonymously.
  • Third prize went to LaDonna Kruger's pastel "The Response." LaDonna won $200 from the Olympia Art League.
  • The Award of Excellence was presented to Ed Schroll for his photograph titled "Spring Showers." Ed received $150 from The Artists Gallery (now at the Capitol Mall and the largest gallery in Olympia).
  • Honorable Mention went to Cal Capener for his oil titled "Allyn Wetlands." Cal won $50.
  • Honorable Mention also went to Laraine Wade-Butterfor her collage titled "Street Racing." Laraine won $50.
  • Tabitha Brown won a solo gallery show presented by Thomas Studio Gallery (Capitol Way downtown Olympia) for her oil painting titled "Animatronic Tree Frog."
  • Jim Chaberlain won a solo gallery show for his photo of " The Devil's Throne" presented by Butterfly, Butterfly Olympia's newest gallery on Water Street downtown Olympia.
  • Peggy Wilson won the Art House Design Award (a great place to get your art framed) for a $150 merchandise certificate with her wonderful watercolor/collage "Compass Crow"
  • Anne-Marie Brown won a $50 merchant certificate presented by Olyphant Art Supply for her pastel "Waterfall." (Olyphant will be moving soon!)
  • John Luxton won a $50 merchant certificate from Childhood End Gallery for his oil painting titled "Low Tide West Bay."

Congratulations to all the prize winners. Please stop by the contributing merchants and tell them that you appreciate their support for art in Olympia and the Olympia Art League!!! Congratulations to all the artists who were honored by being juried into this high standard show! Thank you to all the artists who entered the Lakefair Juried Show!
