Yanitza Cornier
Born and raised in Puerto Rico. Received my Bachelors of Fine Arts from La Escuela de Artes Plásticas in San Juan, PR. As an ARMY brat and now spouse, I have had the privilege of traveling the world. After decades of trying to find my “style”, I finally accomplished that challenge. I work primarily mixed media, as I find just one medium too constricting. I incorporate the female figure in most of my work. The women portrayed will mostly be missing their eyes, which is inspired by the Greek statues I saw when I traveled Greece. I like to add geometric and abstract shapes to contrast with the fluidity of the female figure. Many of my pieces will include some element of a place I traveled. I have yet to create a piece from Puerto Rico… that indeed will be a challenge, since it’s home, and very personal.
